CALLED TO BE CHURCH

On Monday, October 23rd, 2006 the youth of our Parish Family came together in prayer to reflect on the mission of the Church, a mission entrusted to us by

Jesus Himself.  As part of the Diocesan Pastoral Planning Process, they reflected on and discussed four questions.  Those questions, and a summary of the

group’s thoughts, follow.

How does your life imitate Jesus for others?

                 setting a good Catholic example

                 food drives

support for the poor and sick

making prayer a part of our live

standing up for justice in school

incorporating love, compassion, loyalty, respect and honor into our lives

                 helping senior citizens

donate time and money to organizations that help the poor and sick

In what way does our parish community serve the needs of the community?  How are we serving others?

                 Bethlehem Giving Tree

                collections for the poor

                 food drives

                 sending cards to the elderly

presents for the poor at Christmas

                 flowers to shut-ins

special meals as service to the community (e.g., Joseph’s House)

giving clothes to the Salvation Army

What part of our parish life must be maintained, sustained and perhaps expanded?

                 food drives

                 community service

                 parish dinners

                 helping the poor

                liturgical ministers and choir

                 promote vocations

                 keep the community involved

expand faith formation and youth ministry programs

What does a great parish community look like?

good amount of people who are believers in God

                 does community service

has community events (dinners, breakfasts, etc)

                 has a good leader

                 has a clean building

good youth ministry and faith formation programs

has things to keep “little kids” occupied

                 later Mass times on Sunday

works together as a group and influences people to attend church

youth community are all friends with each other and look forward to being confirmed

sees church as a learning experience for kids

learning more about God and have fun activities at the same time (e.g., movie nights, bowling, sleepovers, etc)

WHAT’S NEXT?

The youth will meet again in mid-November to discuss “Ministry” –

the same topic that will be discussed at the November 9th Parish Town Meeting,

Through the entire Pastoral Planning Process, the insights and your prayers of every parishioner are vital as we work

together to respond to the Lord’s call to be His Church.
