CALLED
TO BE CHURCH
The Core Teams of our Local Planning Group met on April
16th to continue our discussion of Life-Long Faith Formation. The
focus was on children and adolescents (ages 6—18).
l. What areas will be strengthened/improved as we
meet the needs of children (aged 6—18/grades 1—12), their parents and families?
● The community of faith
● The connection of liturgy with knowledge and
practice of faith
● The involvement of families in faith
formation through sacramental preparation, celebration, and service projects
● The movement toward intergenerational faith
sharing
● Ways of turning knowledge of faith into
practice
2. What
specifically will this planning group, not individual parishes, do to meet
these needs?
● There was a groundswell of interest in a
cooperate effort and planning toward a shared faith formation program among all
the
parishes, though no action taken to move
this on
3. What
can/will we do immediately to promote the faith formation of this age group?
● Continue the strong liturgical/Scriptural
programs
● Continue the family oriented sacramental
programs
● Continue the outreach activities
● Continue the recognition of children’s
achievements such as receiving Sacraments, making the honor role, graduating,
doing
an outreach service, etc.
4. What
are some preliminary recommendations for the future from this planning
group to respond to the needs of children
(ages 6—18) we will bring to the Deanery
and subsequently submit to Bishop Hubbard?
● Form a representative committee to plan a
cooperative faith formation program among all the parishes
● Engage the support of existing parish leaders
to share financial resources and qualified personnel
● Support for the training and certification of
faith formation teachers and on-going in-service and retreats
